Whole-Wheat Spiced Pear Bread
Ingredients
¾ cup whole-wheat flour
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
½ teaspoon cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup vegetable oil
⅓ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
¾ cup pear sauce or applesauce (see Notes)
1 cup chopped pears (canned or fresh with peel removed)
Directions
- Wash hands with soap and water.
- Rinse or scrub fresh fruits under running water before preparing.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
- In a medium bowl stir together the oil, brown sugar, egg, vanilla and pear sauce.
- Pour the liquid ingredients into the flour mixture and stir just until combined. Carefully stir in the chopped pears. Do not overmix.
- Spoon batter into the loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
- Cool the loaf in the pan for about 15 minutes. Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
- Wrap and refrigerate leftovers. Freeze for longer storage.
Notes
- Use Food Hero Microwave Pear Sauce. You can also blend or mash canned pears until smooth.
- Try other spices such as nutmeg, cardamom, allspice or pumpkin pie spice.
